A useful starting point
The 36 starter profiles are editorial estimates informed by supplier aroma descriptions, not measured sensory scores or Beer Maverick’s database. The current catalog has 36 profiles. Lot imports preserve YCH detection percentages and use an explicitly labeled 0–5 proxy, with estimates for missing axes. Each result links to its source.
Descriptors draw on the BSG hop selection chart, NZ Hops, Hopsteiner, and Yakima Chief’s Citra profile. The interaction is inspired by Beer Maverick’s comparison wizard.
What “% match” means
Match = 100 × (1 − RMSE ÷ 5). RMSE is the root mean square difference across all 12 flavors, weighted equally. A zero target for a flavor counts as wanting none of it. This is a similarity score, not a probability or a sensory guarantee.
Blends minimize squared error with nonnegative proportions that sum to 100%. “Exact in model” requires every flavor to agree within 0.000001. Near matches are capped at 99.9%, so rounding never implies an exact match.
From model to brew
2- and 3-hop modes examine every combination. “Any” searches across all selected varieties for a possible exact match. Some profiles fall outside what those hops can produce; we show the closest result and its flavor gaps.
Grams and ounces assume flavor scales linearly with hop mass. Crop year, oil content, extraction, timing, and yeast can change the result. Treat the recipe as a starting ratio for a bench trial, using the same hop product and addition stage.
Save profile stores your settings in this browser. Recipe export includes full-precision ratios; displayed amounts are rounded.
